Ibiza International Airport, called Aeroport d' Eivissa in Catalan, carries the IATA code IBZ. It is located in the south-east of the island and, together with Mallorca and Menorca, is one of the three commercial airports in the Balearic Islands. Almost 6,500 passengers land and take off here every year. The more than 60,000 aircraft movements at the airport connect Ibiza with the mainland of Spain and with many international and above all European destinations. IBZ Airport has a runway that is used by more than 50 international airlines. It was opened in 1949 for civil aviation and subsequently expanded several times. In the airport building you will find various restaurants and shops as well as car rental. The ground staff will gladly show you the way or give you additional information about the island, the airport and car rental.
Since the airport has only one terminal, orientation is easy even for first-time visitors. The way through the Airport IBZ is signposted and not far away. If you leave the aircraft and enter the airport building, you will be taken directly to passport control. Once passed, you will find the baggage claim area to the right and left of it. Most baggage carousels are located to the right of the passport control. Once you have found your luggage, the signs will take you to Customs. You will then be taken directly to the adjacent arrivals hall. Here you will also find all the car rental counters.
Seven car rental companies are based at the IBZ. All of them are conveniently located in close proximity to each other in the arrivals area of the terminal. It only takes about two to three minutes to get from the baggage claim area to the car rental service if there is no queue at Customs. If you have booked your car in advance, go directly to the counter of the car rental company. Here you will receive all documents and the key for your car. You will then find out where the pick-up station is located. If you have any questions, the staff will give you further information. In any case, ask the car hire company whether you should return your rental car to the pick-up point or to another location when you return it.
The car hire service will show you the way to the pick-up point where you will find your rental car. In most cases, the pick-up station is located in the various car parks directly in front of the airport entrance. The distances are also comparatively short, so that you can walk on foot from the car rental in the terminal to the pick-up station in the car park.
If you have to return your car with a full tank of fuel, you will find many filling stations in Ibiza City. The nearest petrol station is located in Avenida de Ignacio Wallis, about 8 km from the airport. There is no fueling facility at the airport. If necessary, the IBZ car rental service will explain the route to the nearest petrol station and provide you with further information on how to fill up your tank correctly and cheaply in Spain. For example, the use of mobile phones while refuelling is not permitted and may result in a fine.
The airport is located in the southwest of the island's capital, Ibiza City. The distance is only 7 km, so you can reach the city in a short period by car. The journey usually takes no more than 15 minutes. The IBZ is located at the Ctra. Circunvalacion Eivissa, which can be reached by car from the pick-up station. The signs will take you into town. Their destination is "Centre Ciutat Eivissa". The surrounding area is also easily accessible by rental car. You can even take a car ferry to Mallorca or to the Spanish mainland. Alternatively, you can park your rental car at the harbour and take a day trip by boat to Mallorca. The two islands are about 154 km apart. Ibiza is also located 90 km off the coast of the Spanish mainland.
Park your rental car only in the designated areas. On blue marked parking lots you have to buy a parking ticket at the machine. Newer ticket vending machines have the peculiarity of personalizing tickets. You must therefore enter the indicator for your rental car. Never park in yellow marked areas, drive out, in a parking ban or unauthorised on disabled parking spaces. If you get caught, your rental car will be towed, which is very expensive and unpleasant.
Spain in general and the ballears in particular are among Europe's most popular destinations. It doesn't always have to be Mallorca, because you can experience the advantages of the country at first hand on Ibiza: Guests will find sun, sea, lively cities and beautiful nature. Get into your rental car and get to know the most beautiful aspects of Eivissa.
Most holidaymakers start their stay on the neighbouring island of Mallorca in Ibiza City. The island's capital is located on the Mediterranean Sea and rises on a hill overlooking the coast. The cathedral is enthroned on it, which you can visit comfortably with your rental car. From up here you can also enjoy a beautiful view over the city and the Mediterranean Sea. Also worth a visit is the old town of Dalt Vila, which has impressive Moorish defensive walls. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. The whitewashed buildings typical of Ibiza also characterise the townscape.
Rent a car and drive to the neighbouring municipality of San Antonio Abad, which today officially bears the Catalan name Sant Antoni de Portmany. It spreads out around the bay of San Antonio. In the picturesque harbour you can visit the egg of Columbus. The egg-shaped statue with a replica of Christopher Columbus' ship Santa Maria is the emblem of the coastal town. San Antonio Abad is also known for its party mile, the Sunset Strip. There are numerous bars and clubs where famous DJs hang out and holidaymakers dance with locals into the morning hours.
For those who prefer a more tranquil setting, you can rent a car and explore the unique nature of the island. Enjoy Ibiza's sun and the warm climate of Spain. In the coastal region you will discover extensive beaches, hidden bays and rocky cliffs similar to Mallorca. For example, when you rent a car, you can easily circle around Ibiza. The airport of Eivissa is recommended as the start and end of your roadtrip.
