While the city does offer public transportation options such as buses and trains, renting a car is highly recommended due to the spread-out attractions. It gives you the freedom to move around at your own pace, allows you to explore more remote areas and makes the trip memorable.

In most areas, street parking is permitted and car parks are readily available. Maximum speed limits in Japan are typically 60 km/h on normal roads, 100 km/h on expressways, however, it is always recommended to follow the local signage.
